Trees in Dallas will be featuring none other than legendary rapper Kool Keith later this week. The veteran emcee has been around for more than two decades and has influenced hip-hop in a way most rappers today could only dream of.

Although he is best known for his solo career he started in the 90’s, Keith also co-founded the rap group Ultramagnetic MC’s in 1984. The group’s single “Ego Trippin’” (1986) put them on the map and was said to have changed hip-hop forever. Keith did his part as a solo artist as well. His style and creativity have greatly influenced many rappers we hear today. Kool Keith has also been said to have been the pioneer for “horrocore” and “sci-fi” themes.

The Bronx, New Yorker is also known by his many other aliases such as Dr. Octagon, Black Elvis, and Dr. Dooom – just to name a few. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Ice-T, DJ Qbert, and Kutmasta Kurt. Keith is even featured in Ice-T‘s Something From Nothing: The Art of Rapa documentary which is currently playing in select theaters.

Since his 1996 release of the critically acclaimed Dr. Octagonecologyst (as Dr. Octagon) and Spankmaster (2001), Keith has remained in the game. He most recently released his latest album, Love & Danger – which is rumored to be his last. This rumor stemmed from Keith’s last track on the album, “Goodbye Rap” (click here to listen). Love & Danger was released June 5 via Junkadelic.

Kool Keith’s Who Am I? tour makes it’s stop at Trees in Dallas Thursday, July 26 – open to all ages. Special guests include The Weekend Hustler, Guerrillah Spit and MC Sex. Make sure to get your tickets soon for it could be the last time to see this legend perform!
